Idylls of the Rat King (5E)

I was invited to create the illustrated maps for Goodman Games’ new 5th Edition adaptation of Idylls of the Rat King—the adventure that started it all. Originally published in 2003, it was the very first module ever released by Goodman Games, launching what would become one of the most respected and enduring adventure lines in tabletop gaming. Revisiting such an important title was both a privilege and a fascinating creative challenge.

For the new edition, I produced four highly detailed isometric maps of the adventure’s sprawling dungeon, each rendered in pen and ink with watercolor washes. Rather than presenting simple floor plans, the maps combine accurate cartography with richly illustrated environments, inviting players and Game Masters to explore the abandoned mine, ancient ruins, and hidden chambers in vivid detail. I also created two additional maps for Pretenders to the Rat King’s Throne, the brand-new sequel releaased for Free RPG Day 2026

This project gave me the opportunity to contribute to a genuine landmark of modern roleplaying history. Breathing new visual life into the adventure that launched Goodman Games was immensely rewarding, and the finished maps are among my favorite pieces of RPG cartography.
